The 5-number crankpin was inspected and the following are the main observations:

Crankpin no. 1 was found damaged and the following minimum & maximum readings were observed.
- Minimum diameter observed: 169.75 mm
- Maximum diameter observed: 169.89 mm
Thus the total wear of the crankpin after the damage was 0.25 mm which is considered to be very much on the higher side as the standard diameter specified by the Daihatsu engine manufacturer in their maintenance manual is 169.97 mm.
- The deep bearing line marks were also observed on crankpin no.1 due to the seizure of the crankpin bearing.
- The remaining 4 crankpins’ diameter was observed within limits, in the case of crankpins no.2 and 5 the bearing line marks were observed.
- The hardness and crack detection by MPI was undertaken and all the parameters were observed within limits as per the Daihatsu engine manufacturer.
- The crankpin no.1 grinding was undertaken to the first step undersize of 0.5 mm. It was jointly inspected by the chief engineer and RA Power technicians.
- Since the deep bearings line marks were still present. It was decided to undertake the grinding to the next undersize of 1.0 mm.
- The crankpin was polished and after grinding & polishing the final size from 168.97 mm to 168.99 mm was maintained. The Crankpins no.2 and 5 were also polished. RA Power can maintain a surface finish of less than 20 Ra value.
